Avoid Lack of Experience Regret

August 7, 2018 by Lisa and Stace Leave a Comment

How to Avoid Lack of Experience Regret

Stace and I have a saying that we use to avoid lack of experience regret later, because we didn’t try something. It applies to any and everything, food and experiences. It goes like this: We say to each other that we must try something because we wouldn’t want to have any regrets about it. “You/We don’t want to have sushi regret”, “sea turtle regret” (read about that here.), “escargot regret”, etc.  It’s a way to remind us to live in the moment and partake in what there is to do and eat.

While traveling in Europe, we stopped in, Nice, France, and went to a farmer’s market. Stace had researched and found that a local street food to try was Socca. Socca is an unleavened chickpea flour pancake with pepper sprinkled on top.

Be Adventurous!

You may be thinking, like all of the other people on the day tour, including myself, “chickpeas…pepper…yuck!” And all of the other people on the tour refused to try it. So of course, we bought one and offered it to the others in the group to sample. We ended up convincing a few people to give it a try.

Seasoning applied to Socca.

They were surprised when they didn’t mind it or even liked it. Socca wasn’t anything bad like what they were thinking it would be. Many times our preconceived thoughts stop us from being adventurous.

Seize The Experience

When traveling or just living life, it’s important to seize upon the moment and partake when you can, trying new foods or experiences.  Be in the moment.  Don’t get me wrong, you won’t be over the moon about everything.  But, how will you know that you will or won’t enjoy something if you don’t try it?

So, I challenge you to strive not to have regrets in your life. Even if you don’t enjoy it, you will still have a memory and a story to share with others. And sometimes the most surprising experiences will leave you beaming with happiness that you just tried it.  Don’t live with regrets, experience life!
